Thousands will travel to San Antonio, Texas to watch the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The game features the best 90 high school players in an East versus West match-up. Over the years the game as featured the nation’s most elite football players, giving fans a glimpse of future college and NFL stars.
The U.S. Army marching band will be on hand to perform during half-time. The band is made up of 125 young musicians. Pella native Sergeant First Class Phillip Johnson will be there to help with the band.
He says it’s been an honor to work with such talented individuals, “it’s always great to work with youth, but these kids are the best, and it’s not just their playing or their marching, these kids are intelligent, capable, motivated, bright, responsive, and respectful. It’d be hard for any teacher to not loving working with these kids.”
Sergeant Johnson currently serves at a base in Maryland.
The game will be shown on Channel 13 at noon Saturday.
